Does anyone know why a representative of Savannah State is on the consolidation committee?

WTOC did a story on this.

Basically, my understanding is they want to make sure there is not too much redundancy between the Savannah campus' program offerings and SSU's.

One reason I'm not quite ready to get excited about the merger. This is being done to cut costs across the state, not help Georgia Southern.
Hey, Tyson! Change the culture back!

If you think TK is the reason we don't have better non-conference football schedules, see this post.

    "Tick-tock Savannah State. "

I hate to tell you guys but you don't understand at all.

It is very, very simple. Savannah State is a HBCU and our regents doesn't have the balls to mess with that political football. I won't go into details, but Savannah State has been a major player in throttling growth at Armstrong since Armstrong came into the University System and the reason they are at the consolidation table is to insure an opportunity for objection to anything they don't like. While neither Armstrong nor Georgia Southern wants to merge or consolidate with Savannah State, don't you think the current merger/consolidation would have provided the greatest opportunity to the BOR if they indeed had a willingness to address the Savannah State issue?

Won't ever happen. Think of the marches & protests that would happen.

HBCUs have been absorbed before. I'm not sure how many of them had the presence that's Sav St has. Either way they have a person there for reasons explained above. Making sure there isn't too much overlap and there to see if there are ways to partner up on certain things.

I don't think you all understand how historic Savannah State is and how untouchable they are because of their history. In the state of GA, Spellman, Morehouse, Clark Atlanta and Savannah State are the untouchable HBCUs
