That braking the tackle and getting the first down was huge and impressive, he's showing he's not just a little guy but a quick little guy who can brake NFL tackles. GATA Matt!

Great write up, thanks for sharing!

I wish Brieda did not have to make that great run at the expense of another Eagle, but Eligwe also had a good game. It was fun to watch.

Breaking the tackle was great for Breida, but probably says more about Eligwe's poor tackle.

Maybe more impressive on that same run was how Breida shook out of the tackle in such a way that the safety was on his heels and let Matt beat him to the corner/sticks.

That was more impressive than Williams' run (which was a good run but mostly showed him read his blocks and cut/accelerate at the right time ).

A few 49ers fans kept saying how much better Williams looked. But 80% of Williams runs were outside the tackles and 80% of Breida's runs were inside the tackles. Let Breida run that same outside play that Williams ran and you can probably add 10 - 15 extra yards to it.

    I was thinking the same.
If they had given Breida the outside plays that Williams had he may have taken it to the house and
EVERYONE would be talking about Matt this week
Once poked Chad Lunsford in the eye.

Poor Matt. Had his 1 TD taken away by a penalty (that happened to Jerick's first would be TD too a few years ago). Breida had zero chance of getting into that endzone with the lack of push that OL got. He got hit twice a full yard behind the LOS.

Hopefully, the people that matter (49er coaches) identify that as well. I get the sense they realize that is his talent but they used his first game to see what he can do between the Tackles... just wish the OL gave him a little more to work with at the goal line.

Maybe. Williams read, cut, and accelerated on that play according to script. That's not easy, though, and we can't be positive that Matt would've done the same. Williams also used a strong stiff arm to open up the second run in that clip.

But Matt beat two defenders one-on-one on his run. He made that play by himself (with some help from poor tackling).

I'm not much worried about Breida's size. He's no more limited by his size than Reggie Bush or Chris Johnson were limited by theirs, IMO. He won't move piles, but he WILL make defenders work to tackle him.

My only worry is that he gets knocked out like Jahvid Best did, especially through running too aggressively.
