Not to mention all the DIV II coaches that have years of experience and winning that just got passed over. "Things could be worse" is not a valid argument. One year as a HC with a team she mainly did not recruit or develop, yes that scream DIV I qualifications especially for a really strong SB conference like the Belt is. But this will not make or break the athletics department or get any fired so hopefully the one year at Armstrong was not a fluke. Just sad to see sports being used to appease people. Especially Armstrong people who did not support athletics at all.
    You nailed it...

We had someone apply that would have give us instant creditable in the softball world on a national level. I don't know if the $$ would have been there to get him hear, but he was interested.
Then I would have turned to the DII coaches that have built great programs and know the area. The North Georgia coach would be an example.

I get the tennis hire, but this one not so much. Hope she does well of course. This should end the parade of Armstrong coaches coming over since there are no more openings I am guessing. Maybe its required to hire them, does anyone know.

A national search I'm sure was conducted(smile and wink).

USG Technicalities I don't think typically allow "appointments" so you have to at least have the appearance of an open search, hence the opportunity for other people to apply. I think this process worked out the way it was supposed to. If you're TK you pick the best coach from the two institutions and move forward. Or should EVERY position on campus that is open for discussion be forced to do a full national search?

In D1 sports yes. Nursing has always done national searches.

I'm referring to JUST this consolidation process. This isn't really the time to open up all of these positions to national searches, you're simply choosing the "best" of the multiple options available and moving on.

EDIT: When it comes to a normal hiring process everybody in my department does a national search as well, even if they know that they are likely hiring from within.

At the end of the 2016 season there were some off the field issues with Armstrong softball that resulted in the removal of long time coach Ted Evans. While our new coach didn't recruit (or possibly develop) the 2017 team--save for the first year players--she did have to help the team put things back together and deal with the player dissent. If she is bringing Megan, a Georgia Southern star player who was the pitching coach, that will help. Our new coach can coach, make game day decisions, and build team unity. The jury is out about her recruiting ability. If I remember from another thread, we may have had some issues that popped open towards the end of the year. Solving those problems would be within our new coach's wheelhouse.

More importantly, who would be willing to come here with 1. salary below the market value 2. our softball facilities.

Waiting for #1Hoopster with a valid logic answer.
