Thread: Slots?

  1. Default Slots?

Four slotbacks and ten wide receivers listed on the roster. Any thoughts on movement? Four seems low and all are small in size.

You may see 1 or 2 guys move to slotback (either runningbacks or WRs), but I think you'll only see one SLOT on the field in 99% of our formations.

I think the slots and H/TEs will have responsibilities similar to A-backs in the flexbone offense which is why Lunsford is coaching both positions.

I figure our two most frequent personnel sets will be:

    1) 2 backs, 1 slot, 2 WRs
    2) 1 back, 1 slot, 1 H/TE, 2 WRs

So you may not need more than 4-5 slots total.

Yeah, I have my doubts that we're going to see a lot of flexbone this season, which is fine by me as long we score points.

My guess is "slot" is just the guy that can shift between being a slot receiver or a second running back. Or maybe we'll see a version of the flexbone with one A-back and one H-back instead of two A-backs?
Hey, Tyson! Change the culture back!

If you think TK is the reason we don't have better non-conference football schedules, see this post.

If we see much flex, I suspect this is the flavor you'll see. Think JJ Wilcox as H-back and Johnathan Bryant as SLOT.

Well, JJ was an omni-back. I was thinking more like, say, Ross Alexander on one side and Myles Campbell at the other.

I think Ross Alexander will be more of a strict H-back in the shotgun but a guy like Ellis Richardson will be able to pull off both roles. I was really impressed with him in the spring game.

When I first read the title of this thread, my 1st thought was CASINO "slots", sorry, carry on. We did spend 5 nights last week in "The House that Garns Built", in Biloxi. Oh well, no more trips untill the Aria in Sept.

We're adding a three night trip to your house in Biloxi after our game at Auburn.

Found it interesting watching some cal poly film from last year that the same player who was the shotgun h back lined up as the b back in the flexbone.

Can't wait to see a Cook's offensive recipe. Shock and awe. Speed, quickness, scores early on in the 1st quarter and continues extreme scoring pressure throughout the entire 4 quarters. He's got a lot of athletes to alternate between Slots/WR's and HB's. Will the defense step up and contribute?
