Thread: UALR Will Conduct Football/Marching Band Feasibility Study

The study is being 2/3rds paid for by the city of Little Rock who owns the stadium parking and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism who owns the stadium. These two groups only make money off property when there are events at the stadium. Only thing scheduled for the stadium now are high school games which do not generator the overhead cost to maintain the property since the hogs have stopped playing games in Little Rock.

Do they not have to play FCS for a couple seasons first?

If UTA could also make this happen at the same time i'd be thrilled.

No, why would they have to? They are in an existing FBS conference in all other sports. So they are already Title IX complaint, but by adding 85 football scholarships, they'd likely have to add 85 female scholarships. They'd probably start up, recruit for a 2 years, play 1 club season, 2 transition years per the NCAA, then be a full fledged FBS team.

    From the article:
ost recent Sun Belt all-sports school to add football – launched a football program in 2009 and began SBC play in its fourth season (2012). South Alabama was eligible for the Sun Belt Championship and postseason play in 2013.

    Two options for Little Rock:

    1) pony up the big bucks to play in Sun Belt, they add Liberty to balance out the divisions.
    2) they go straight to FCS, and join the Southland with Central Arkansas or MVC with Mo State (maybe UTA too).

They could go the South Alabama route, which did not include a stay in FCS.

But, those ARE options for UALR. They may not be the only options, but they are indeed options. Just because they do not have to start in FCS does not mean they will not.

Pay close attention to the word "options". They could go the South Alabama route, they could go FCS to limit costs, or they could even go the Georgia St route where they start in FCS but move up quickly. What part of that is wrong?

South Alabama actually started in 2009 playing DIII, NAIA, and even at least one high school team (Hargrave Military Academy). Then they played primarily FCS schedules in 2010 and 2011 and didn't play their first year in Sun Belt play until 2012.

EDIT - NM, you guys really confused me.
