It's also pretty petty to point out the 15 seconds he talks each video when you know that he does a lot more than that. He even is watching film in this video. Lastly, you should be glad we're not hearing him say the words "box count" every 15 seconds like he did in every interview last year.
Lol, that's cute that you think anyone needs to "look for a reason to criticize Summers," as a HC. I mean, his own peers voted him to finish 7th in the SBC... Conference HC's should never pick GS football to finish 7th in the SUN BELT, never!

Nonetheless, I clearly stated above that my observations could just be due to media editing, and that I have not personally seen him in practice, so you are obviously as guilty of selective hearing/reading as you claim I am.

I don't think TS is being strategic by talking in generalities and trite motivational phrases. I think that is who he is. I said last year (about five times) that I never heard him utter a real insight about Georgia Southern football. I don't think he is an analytic thinker. (Meaning: he does not naturally look for components and how systems work.) I'll bet you he doesn't tinker with machines or fix things for a hobby. He is a "people person," a holistic thinker, a specialist in getting along with people. BUT...this might be enough for a head coach. His main job is hiring and recruiting well and keeping people motivated. The comment in this thread that he was like a college president was right. They do not need to be great teachers or researchers; they need to fund-raise and motivate and recruit well and keep different campus factions from killing each other. Very similar job.

TS said a few weeks back that he sees his role this season as getting to know all the players individually and encouraging them. He also said he intended to let the OC control the details, the nuts and bolts of the offense, and he was going to pay more attention to the defense, where at least he has some relevant experience. This would be ideal. TS had a good off-season. Hired somebody good for OC (check), brought back the PJ-related option (check), improved S&C (check), lit a fire under the DC's butt to improve aggressiveness and sacks (check).

One handicap TS has is his babyish appearance. Combine that with the rambling, feel-good talk and it definitely does not come across as tough or intimidating. Maybe we do not need that (tough and intimidating) but you need a little alpha male vibe, a little respect. Remember the first game last year when the cameraman could not figure out who was head coach? By letting his hair grow out a bit, TS eliminated one babyish feature (round bald head). He can't do anything about two others: his big eyes and soft little jaw. A beard looked good on him during the off-season, and that would definitely help, but I gather his wife didn't like it. What we see now is probably as un-babyish as he will get. Enough about that...hopefully it is not important.

The main thing is: let the OC do his thing, keep the players happy, improve S&C. All good. But don't expect analytic football talk from this guy. It isn't his thing. As long as he has the right assistant coaches, maybe it doesn't need to be.
