Is THAT too much to ask?
You are absolutely right. We may be limited by how much we can pay, but all the more reason to not limit the search to option coaches.

    2. You say that we need to hire a proven coach with a good track record and every person that I named on my list has that. Houston is 19-1 with a title. Dell coached us through a record-setting bowl game and is a recruiting genius at UGA.

    3. Let's not make this into a Triple Option vs every other kind of tired, nondescript offense that is used in CFB. There is nothing wrong with running the option, there are plenty of great option coaches out there, and we have been/can be successful running it. END OF STORY.

4I would say that not hiring a proven option coach who knew how to utilize our specifically-recruited players correctly is what got us into this mess. Not to mention, if we went with a coach that wanted to run an offense that our players weren't specifically recruited for, we'd have to give him 2-3 years to install his offense and recruit the players to run it. We don't have that kind of time when our program has taken a huge blow and needs instant success before the wind completely leaves the sails. If we hired some random air raid coach and continued having mediocre seasons while he tries to figure things out, we'll just be another Eastern Michigan, or Kent State, or Ball State with no uniqueness, no notoriety, and a completely apathetic fan base. Georgia Southern is known for hard-nosed, option ball and without that, we will die.
Who are all these great option coaches that you speak of? I Don't see all the option specific players you talk about? Whatever offense we run, we have to find a qb that we can balance up the offense with.

We don't have a good QB for ANY scheme right now and there certainly aren't a ton of great option coaches out there. If we wanted to stay flexbone we should have promoted Brent Davis when Monken left (as I and others suggested).

Instead, we hired a proven HC with a different scheme (Fritz) which is fine.

There are two possible solutions to the problem you note. Yours only allows for the possibility of avoiding jumping back and forth from bone to other, but leaves open the door to the dilemma of perennially jumping into and out of whatever scheme the next coach up is fond of. It can be done (Ark State), but not with any reasonable predictability or certainty. The second solution is that we take a step back and instead of looking at this from a 'next coach' perspective, we look at a long term strategy to ensure the highest chance of winning for the next decade with consistency, the greatest degree of continuity during transitions, and the simplest process of replacing coaches: instead of getting away and staying away, we should embrace it and stick with it as the overarching strategy.

Without it, every coaching search, hiring decision, scheme/roster transition, and implementation is fraught with risk. Embracing the the flex or something very close to it, much less so.

I have a strong feeling we will be looking for a HC who's offense is more balanced, his teams/offenses have shown the ability to throw well and run well. I doubt a Flex/TO coach is in our future. Something like Appy's offense, JMU's etc......

Garns, I love ya, but you're back to building your street cred since you had us all believing CTS was here through 2018!
