I get why he's an attractive candidate. But I still would like to see us throw our best offer at Houston first.
So it's ok to be mediocre as long as we run the flex?

That's a problem with our fanbase.

Mike Sewak didn't get a pass.
Hey TK! Change the culture back!

If you think TK is the reason we don't have better non-conference football schedules, see this post.

I think what gritz meant is that if we're truly going back to our roots with the flex, most of the fanbase would be inclined to give him a little time for adjustment compared to if we went air raid or something else. I think most folks would just be happy we were getting back to the flex. Just the way I read it.

I think we tend to be pretty short sighted as coaches go and quick to turn on coaches... at least that’s my view. Remember you said mediocre, not terrible results.

If I have learned anything in my time here, it's that this fan base will rationalize away bad games from PJ, Monken, etc. When they lose, it's always due to something else while when others lost it always comes back to the offense.

Flex coaches are going to get way more leeway for a 5-7 or 6-6 season than will anyone else.

He also hasn't sniffed another head coaching job either. I always thought that was odd.

    Erk.

Taking the Russell family out of the equation, Baker chose the right coach in 2001, and the reasons he gave were valid.

Bad games? Yes. Bad seasons? Never had to for a season that was 'bad' by the FBS paradigm.

Maybe for one season if we can legitimately blame it on the roster or something. Otherwise, the whole point of pursuing the flex as a system is that it should have a higher floor. A really 'off' year should be 6 wins.

How many 5-7 or 6-6 seasons have we had running flex?
