    Default Good news for 2011

    ESPN

I wanted to take a peek on ESPN to see if CY had started on his 2011 recruiting yet and he failed to disappoint. ESPN has 2 highly touted recruits in Kameron Dunnican (6-8 195) and Tim Dixon (6-10 200) listed as considering GSU. Both listed as power forwards, Dunnican is rated as a 91 and Dixon a 90. They also have one committ listed in Jessie Pernell, a 6-1 point guard out of Augusta. CY is starting to stockpile talent.

I am not at all worried about CY and the basketball program, just as Monken will get us back on track in the next few years. it is time for a new AD to take these young coaches and get the most out of them with support b/c they will not be around GSu forever and will move on. I truly feel that our top 3 sports have amazing coaches and the future is looking great for our Eagles! I have felt this way about the baseball program only the last few years. I have not felt good about football since PJ left and about basketball since Price's 4th or 5th year with us. but now we have young, enthusiastic coaches and it's time for the administration to rise up and take it to the next level...which is playoffs, super regionals and the big dance. (Not a I-A topic)

CY is a monster. Pernell is an absolute player.

There is so much talent in Georgia and Florida that CY should be able to rack up and never leave those 2 states. Recruiting is more important in basketball than it is in football IMO (just ask John Calipari). If Hewitt and Ferguson live up to the hype then this year could be a fun one. Might even give me a reason to get nervous on my bet with 'skins.

    Jessie Pernell clip

Highlight vid of Pernell, he's fast and fearless when attacking the rim. Says he has a 3.6 GPA and a 1440 SAT score (old scale) and also plays WR on the football team. Love the kid's vision in traffic.

Wow. My uncle said this kid was smart, but that is almost genius level.

    Looks kinda small, doesn't he?

Quick release on the shot, but it was raw talent. Sometimes he shot it from the low point, sometimes from the high. Shot basically needs plenty of work.

As you stated, the vision in traffic and in transition was definitely impressive. As were the defensive clips. But let's remember, they aren't exactly going to show him making bad plays on a highlight video.

ACT score doesn't match the SAT score. Weird. Mine was almost right on (25 on ACT, 1140 on SAT). Woulda thought his ACT would be much higher with that SAT score..
    This about says it all.

Uh, this guy got a 1000 on the SAT. 1440 on the NEW scale.

I noticed that his form needed some work as well. Great finisher around the hole though.

Pernell is an athlete. Looks like the first real point guard we've had since Duane Foreman. Pernell is a much better athlete than Foreman. We'll see if he can develop a deadly jumper.

2 new commits in Chris Daniels and Rasham Suarez

Suarez: 6-2 180 G from Jonesboro, GA. PR orginally. 2 stars on Scouts and had an offer list of 14 on Rivals. Played at Findlay Prep (NV) his freshman and sophomore year before moving to GA. Findlay is a nationally ranked team and always has high major singees every year. Plays for the GA Stars AAU team.

Daniels 6-5 180 wing from perenial power Columbia HS, Decatur, GA. Same high school as Sam Mike and Tay Rucker. NR on Scout and a 40 on ESPN pending film and evaluation. I got a chance to Daniels play at the team camp at GSU this summer. If he ever is evaluated by a recruiting site he could easily be a 3+ star guy. Has an outstanding mid range jumper and is very athletic. Plays for the Atlanta Celtics AAU team. I watched CY recruit him after Columbia had won the tournament at GSU that was in Late June or Early July and now a commitment in August. CY is a magician.

If you have ever heard CY talk in person, you know how he can recruit almost anybody he wants. The best example of his charisma that I saw happened last year at a pep rally in Hanner. He talked about getting our swagger back in every sport, how we have more championships than UGA, and how he was on the team that beat State to win the TAAC in Hanner. He painted a picture of a packed Hanner shaking with noise until I could almost see and feel it. Then he started chanting "the REAL GSU" over and over again. At first, it seemed really lame and weird, but he just kept doing it until everybody there was fired up and chanting with him. The guy just has a magic personality.

CY could sell a space heater to the Devil, I'm convinced. I think he actually enjoys recruiting!

Are we not going to fill the final scholarship open this year? I understand why we won't if we can't get the right kid, but it would be nice to have one more big man.
