That's right, ladies and gentlemen....Georgia Southern is back in the playoffs. Off to Williamsburg to establish a new colony in Virginia. And don't give me none of that crap about Virginia and Brunswick County inventing Brunswick stew. Every well educated person knows it comes from Brunswick, GA.

The Tribe is gonna experience a new trail of tears.

Go Eagles!

What say you, TALON? Valleyboy? stevethepirate? Arrrr! Time for grog and wenches! Yo steve, the first plot against Blackbeard, aka Edward Teach, was hatched in Williamsburg...whatcha gotta say about that? I say shore party and raid and pillage!

So they changed their mascot from an Indian to a Griffin because of political correctness. Since they kept the name tribe what happens in 15 years when pressure mounts on using the name Tribe? Will they officially become the Griffins at that point?

Unlike some schools, we don't change our mascot every time someone opposes it. Can't believe during the name change that the Griffins was the best option. But then I looked at the other choices: King and Queen, Phoenix, Wren, and Pug. Seriously? Who the heck was running this mascot change?

You must understand, for the better parts of the last four years this section of the site has been collecting dust while the once proud Eagle Empire was reduced to being a mere spectator and rare factor within the FCS playoff scene.

Once upon a time, we used to have quite a fun time bantering with the opponents here ... but after the scant number of UMASS fans left in 1999 it has been slim pickings ... only an occasional Furman fan nowadays ... even many of the App State fans are hesitant to visit.

But like the swallows returning to Capistrano, we finally see some signs of familiarity.

So pardon us while we start to climb back to our familiar perch.

BTW, good call on the possums. No one has used that one here before, so you do get an "A" for originality. Been running this site since the last time GSU played W&M .. been waiting for a second chance against you guys for quite some time.

Here's the story on the W/M mascot:

I was sittin' on muh front porch one evening, sippin' a glass of sweet tea, thinking about getting up and having a shot of Jack Daniels, when Rufus, my lazy azz houn' dog let's out a single bark. I wasn't sure whether he smelled something coming or whether he was harkin' up a turkey neck bone, as Rufus rarely does anything but break wind. Rufus immediately just plopped right back down in the spot where he always is, I looked up the road, and sho' 'nuff, somebody was coming.

I figured it was one of my good for nothing friends, coming up to borry some quarters for the pool table at the juke joint up the road apiece. But as he approached, I was shocked to see a great furry mangy creature with the ugliest pirate hat you ever did see. "What the hell is that?!" I said to no one in particular, but Rufus answered anyway, "Beats me, homeboy!", he said. Rufus, being the worst dog that ever lived is only good for two things - gaseous exhausts that often lead to UFO sightings, and smart-azz comments. Stupid dog....you'd think a proper dog would bark and howl and at least run up to the approaching stranger and hump his leg or something....

Remembering the former incident with Montague, the armadillo, I had my .357 Magnum ready in case this mangy creature wanted to start some sh!t. As he approached the stairs leading up to the porch, I unsheathed my sidearm and introduced him to the shiny 6" stainless steel barrel. "What the hell do you want, and what the hell are you, anyway?" His hands shot up in the air as he could sense that lead death was only a slight index finger pull away.

"Sir....I don't want any trouble. I just would like to borrow your telephone, if I may?" was the response that I heard from the creature. "Son, I can't let you into my house. My wife would think you wuz some kind of Alabama/Missippy cross-breed or something and would shoot you herself", I replied. "Shoot 'em, homey", Rufus said without even lifting his head, and immediately vented, stupid dog.....

Now I had to act quickly, as I knew I couldn't let the creature in as my wife would surely think it was some World War II cousin experiment or something, and I couldn't stay on the porch long due to Rufus' discharge, so I decided to run the mangy creature up to the juke joint to use their telephone.

I grabbed my truck keys, sheathed my side arm and the creature and I got into my truck. As we rode down the road, careful not to hit any deer but trying my best to squash any armadillos that dared cross my path, the creature told me his story:

"At William and Mary, I was the selected one to change our mascot. We wished to get away from our Native American Pocahontas and companion thing so as not to offend anyone. We decided to do this in secret, so I traveled down to the swamps of south Georgia where we could transmogrify in secret. That's why I need to use the telephone. I need to call the university and tell them that the experiment was a failure. I was supposed to be a griffin - you know, half eagle/half lion. They gave me a mixture of putrid Virgina Brunswick stew, a blenderized frog nog potion that contained the remains of Col. Ebirt, the frog, some pug fur, two wren feathers and some shredded playing cards - the queen of hearts and the king of spades. I found a quiet spot in the swamp, read some Injun mojo from an old bark parchment, and drank the potion. Instead of becoming a griffin, I became this furry monstrosity."

"So, what's up with the ugly hat?", I asked. "Well, my genitals are on top of my head, and these hats are sold to tourists all over Williamsburg so almost everyone has one. Besides, it's better than wearing my briefs on my head." I couldn't argue with him there.

I dropped him off at the juke joint and headed home. As I approached the front porch, I was shocked to find Rufus actually sitting up for a change. "What was it, slick?" he asked me. "William and Mary mascot, I replied". "Well, that's a relief....your wife was sure that it was a result of a Mountaineer/Catamount love union" and Rufus flopped back down in his usual spot. I decided that I really did need that shot of Jack Daniels.....

Ok, very recent timelines. Which school playing at Zable Stadium this Saturday DIDN'T have to play a play-in game because the beat worthy opponents throughout the regular season? Which school only had an opportunity to play in a play-in game because the playoff field was stretched to 20 teams? Do you even realize that you wouldn't have even made the playoffs if the FCS hadn't increased the field to 20? Hey, why did Wofford and ASU get to stay at home last Saturday while you played? You couldn't even win your conference. You weren't even second best.

Maybe you can understand this....for some, it's become "politically correct" to dis the AD down here.

Not winning playoff games and national championships is the definition of a "good season" at Bill and Mary. Why would they fire their AD?

In my hometown the COMPANY, West Point Pepperell had a Griffin as it's logo. We always called it a Flying JackASS.

Bill & Mary I have to let you know that that Flying JackAss is no more due to the death of the COMPANY.

This weekend the Eagle's will put your sorry Flying JackAss out of it's misery.

We Southern Boys do not care one bit about being politically Correct. As far as we are concered you can carry your Tribe of Flying JackAss's back to the home country after the beat down you will receive this weekend at the hand of the GSU Eagle Nation.

Sure, and the Dallas Cowboys won a few Super Bowls...how have they done since then? Losers speak of things they did years ago.

What about those that have nothing to talk about from the past? Will & Fairy is 0-0 in National Championship games! You're kind of like the Detroit Lions of 1-aa. You can't talk about what you did years ago, because you've never done anything...

At least you don't have a losing record...I guess that's something to hang your hat on.

I don't know if anyone has really brought this up, but one of Billy Bob and Mary Pat's losses this year came against James Madison. For this game, JMU installed a "gimmicky" wildcat offense that caught Slick Willy and his half-chicken, half-b*tch "griffin" by surprise. JMU only attempted one pass (incomplete) and was sacked twice. After rolling up an "amazing" 266 yards on the ground, the Pukes walked away with a 30-24 victory. JMU returned a blocked punt for a TD and recorded a safety against a Will & Grace team that did not turn the ball over once. Due to their excellent academics (thanks Tribal), the Graduatin' Griffins might actually learn something from the Wildcat Surprise, but I think our 3-O still gives them fits. GSU's defense forces a late turnover to hold on for a 20-17 victory.

I beg to differ Eagle...C game just seems like a waste of time.

I did read an article the other day about GSU considering changing their mascot to Opposums, cause they play dead at home and get killed on the road. Any truth to that?

When the Eagles beat you Saturday, you will have to change your mascot to a Tampon, because W&M is only good for one period and does not have a second string!

However, if we did change to the Possums, it would be more like this:

Unlike some schools, we don't change our mascot every time someone opposes it. Can't believe during the name change that the Griffins was the best option. But then I looked at the other choices: King and Queen, Phoenix, Wren, and Pug. Seriously? Who the heck was running this mascot change?

Congratulations William and Mary. Not only do you have the worst mascot, you had the worst FIVE MASCOTS in the running to be number one.

They also had an idea for the asparagus as a mascot.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2277541/posts

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The College of William & Mary in Virginia is looking for a mascot and ideas have ranged from a feathered horse to an asparagus stalk.
The school said Monday more than 400 nominations have been submitted. William & Mary for decades was known as the Indians, but the school changed its nickname to Tribe in the 1980s.
The NCAA ruled in 2006 that the college could keep the Tribe nickname but its feathered logo was demeaning to Native Americans and had to go.
The school's athletic teams will still be called the Tribe, but the college wants a mascot that may , or may not , match the nickname. The asparagus stalk supporter notes that if served with cheese, the vegetable represents the school colors.

Which school only had an opportunity to play in a play-in game because the playoff field was stretched to 20 teams? I believe we were told that four times in 1985.....1986, 1989, 1990, 1999 and 2000....to help you count that is 6...yes 6 National Championships. and I believe 39 games in playoffs with the most wins of any other team. Now that we have the Option back in place we are hungry for number 7.... Oh and we did beat the number one team in the nation this year....but feel confident to put your 2nd and third team to begin the game, because you guys are so awesome.

GSU Fans:

We are gonna get totally destroyed. We have no chance. Did you read what William and Mary is capable of?

1. They have not lost at home in TWO YEARS! I can't ever remember a time in which we could beat a team of that caliber and end a home streak.

2. How many CONFERENCE championships did Tribal mention?!?! Man, our a**** would be whooped in the CAA. I'm glad we don't play in that conference. I can't imagine having to play teams that just make it to the playoffs year in and year out. Especially that Delaware team from a few years back that made it to the championship game. I think they lost to some Blue Ridge mountain team from Crockett, NC or something like that. Sounds like a team we may have used to play.

3. Have you seen their history? One of the oldest schools in America. I'm sure they must have won a national title in there, but the records must have been lost. I just know that is the problem. Records weren't kept as well back then as they are now.

To close...we shouldn't even go. I'm scared of just how BAD we're gonna get whooped. Save all your money folks. I know everyone on here has no job and Christmas is just around the corner (at W&M it's the holidays...Gotta be P.C.) and unless you want Willie, Cricket, and Jimmy Ray to go without, just stay and shop at Wal-Mart this weekend for the big deals on gerbils and rubber sheets.

Tribal has us with this obvious fact. Ok Eagle Fans, we might as well give it up. Here's a message for you Tribal:

Local native american lawyer, Jonny Speakingbull, said it wasnt that there logo was demeaning it was that there RECORD was demeaning!
"Combining for a total of SEVEN (7) wins in 2006 and 2007 (3-8, 4-7) we felt that there comparison of native americans with W&M football was demeaning.
We suggested that they change there mascot to something that more closely represented their style of play, for instance, a female chicken.
We were informed that another team in their conference had beaten them to that particular mascot."

Yellow School Buses

When the football team was started again in 1981, money was tight. In fact, there wasn't enough money to furnish transportation. The Bulloch County (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulloch_County) school system sold two buses for a dollar each to the team. The buses have been used by the team ever since as transportation to the Allen E. Paulson Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulson_Stadium). It has become a rich tradition and many gather before the game to watch the arrival of the yellow school buses.

I have never seen something so pathetic. "Many gather?" Oh my god, what a bunch of losers.

This is pretty awful. Rather than standing behind gay teen Derrick Martin, whose parents kicked him out of the house following his school's decision to allow him to bring his boyfriend (Richard Goodman, pictured below) to prom, a group of students at the school is protesting its decision (http://www.macon.com/2010/03/26/1073335/students-protest-bleckley-prom.html):

The decision marked the first decision in the countyís history about a same-sex couple attending the prom there. 'We knew Derrick was gay,' said Keith Bowman Jr., a high school senior who showed up at the rally. 'They donít want (Cochran) to be known as a pro gay town.' Most of the dozen attending the rally said they werenít bothered by Martin being gay or being allowed to attend prom with his partner. But they said the school systemís decision has brought too much attention to their small town. The rallyís organizer, Amber Duskin, sent text messages to high school students Wednesday asking them to show up. The senior said she asked her high school to return her prom ticket money and does not plan to attend because of Martin.' I donít believe in going up there and dancing with gay guys like that,' she said. 'Itís also not just him bringing a boy. It was bringing all this attention to it.'"
There has been much support for Martin elsewhere, though, Project Q Atlanta reports (http://www.projectqatlanta.com/news_articles/view/Atlanta_chorus_to_host_gay_teen_in_prom_flap?gid=5 156):
"The gay Georgia teen who gained attention this week for pushing to bring his boyfriend to the prom only to be kicked out by his parents will be a guest at Fridayís concert by the Atlanta Gay Menís Chorus. Derrick Martin (photo left), an 18-year-old honor student at Bleckley County High School in Cochran, is expected to attend AGMCís 'Georgia on My Mind' concert tonight at Virginia Highland Church, according to chorus Executive Director Keith Fenton. He may even return for one of the Saturday performances, too, Fenton says."
Martin has also reportedly been invited by Ellen DeGeneres to appear on her show.
Martin gave an interview to the Georgia Voice (http://www.thegavoice.com/index.php/news/georgia-news-menu/82-atlanta-gay-chorus-hosts-ga-teen-kicked-out-of-home-over-prom):
"Martin said being kicked out of his home by his parents on Tuesday because of the media attention this story has garnered hasn't dissuaded from being who he is. 'I know they had the right because it's their house. Now I just want to get an apartment and then go to college,' he said. Martin has a scholarship to Georgia Southern where he will be major in pre-law. Martin said Tuesday was an average day. He went to school and then to his job with a state tutoring program for at-risk third, fourth, fifth grade students and middle schools students to help them pass the CRCT. When he got home that evening his mother told him to pack his bags and leave. 'So I packed my stuff and left,' he said. 'She said it was disrespectful of me' to interview with a local TV station."

Transgender Homecoming Queen Crowned At William And Mary

<!-- Module ends: article-header--><!-- Module starts: article-byline (ArticleByline) -->October 25, 2009|By Melinda Waldrop
WILLIAMSBURG ó The College of William and Mary's new homecoming queen is a transgender student, a "gender-queer" junior selected by classmates this week with little fuss.
In a red shirt, black pants and a small silver lip ring, Jessee Vasold made a half-time appearance Saturday at the Tribe's football game against James Madison. The new queen was greeted with polite applause but little other notice. Vasold and the other members of the homecoming court were introduced, posed for pictures, and walked off the field.
Vasold identifies as "gender-queer," a catch-all term for those who identify with something other than traditional male or female gender roles.

Normally, it really just depends on the day, how I dress," said Vasold, who prefers gender neutral pronouns - "ze" instead of he or she and "zir" instead of him or her. "I don't identify as a woman. It really just depends on the day and the occasion."
Vasold has created an account on the social networking site Facebook for a female identity, Kathy Middlesex.

Pike, no, I wasn't saying that you wrote anything off-color. This is a smack talk board. I'm enjoying it. Look me up when you get to Zable. I usually sit in the GA section, opposite the scoreboard, near the visiting team's section. I'm 6'4, 250, bald and damn handsome...you can't miss me. Just don't tell my wife that you met me on a message board...she probably thinks I'm researching our 2011 vacation.

Transgender Homecoming Queen Crowned At William And Mary

<!-- Module ends: article-header--><!-- Module starts: article-byline (ArticleByline) -->October 25, 2009|By Melinda Waldrop

Hello, what are you guys doing? I asked a question...get your hands out of your pants. Does GSU have something better than that?

That's the norm at Georgia Southern. The man that started it all said it best:

Tribal and GoneTribblin', y'all need to start sneakin' into chicks domiciles - dorms, apartments, they mama's and daddy's house, what ever and take some pictures. Now...it's gotta have something Bill and Maybelle in the pic or else it don't count. If you're skeered ya might get arrested, then ya probably shouldn't do this, but walk on campus, if you can get outta dish duty at the Waffle House, and take pics of chicks around campus - again they gotta be wearing something to ID or be taken in front of a sign or something. Don't post on the thread, ya might get in trouble with 22, just send them to me via PM. I'll decide if they is pretty or not and I'll tell the rest o' the bunch that y'all got some fine trim on campus.

Now jump to it, now. I will expect the first batch of pics by 10am tomorrow.

I ain't gonna charge you for this right now. Consider it a freebie unless I don't get any good ones. By the way, if you is in the market for some good rumors, then I is yo' numba one resource. Cash only and don't ask for credit 'cause I ain't giving you nairn.

What gets me about Bill & Mary beer pong Nazi police is that any and I mean any table can be use in the serious game of drink'in.
I am sorry to hear that all tables have been removed from the campus at Bill & Mary and that tables manners have gone extreamely down with all students eating off the floor due to table ban.

Now that you have admitted that your women are ugly, it has become very clear why you have so much anger built up. Most likely it is sexual frustration, hence why you would be out chasing double rainbows.

Tribal, as you may know Chick-fil-A was founded in Georgia. They have a well known advertising campaign titled 'Eat More Chicken'. I found this picture of the Chick-fil-A cows dressed as cheerleaders. Eat More Chicken indeed!!

That "your women" smack is old. That's the same as my "we're academically superior" smack...neither has anything to do with football. Other than UNC this season, Tribe hasn't been beaten by a non-CAA team in ages. Guys Sucking Uncles hasn't done anything since 2002 and you wouldn't even be in the playoffs with a 16 team bracket. You started the season 4-4 (.500) and lucked your way past App State. Your other wins were against subpar teams. You're so happy to finally have a chance, you can't stand it anymore. But, at 1630 this Saturday, you're going to be kicking your dog. Don't do anything stupid in Williamsburg...our cops have itchy trigger fingers.

Good looking women don't have anything to do with football??? What kind of man are you? Let me guess, beer and hot wings are completely unrelated as well?

I would have thought guys from an academically superior school would have figured that out by now....

Hey, how's this taste?

The College and Georgia Southern have met just once before, as the Tribe earned a 29-28 victory in Statesboro, Ga., on Sept. 6, 1997.

Here's to 2-0...once at your place, and once at ours.

I know it's old and has nothing to do with football, but it can still be fun when battered around, kinda like your wife. < I know that was over the line. I really didn't want to post it, but it was just too easy. Again, like your wife. > Somebody stop me!

Dude, that is way over the line. Tell you what, I'm in GA, opposing side of the scoreboard near the GSU section. I'll be there this Saturday. Come see me about this and we'll handle it.

Calm down ladies, no reason for personal attacks. Especially when there is so much to make fun of based on their school. So, Tribal, I was reading the 'Last Time it Happened' section of the W&M Media Guide. I couldn't find the last time you won a National Championship, is this a misprint?
