1. Baseball Drops Decision to Yellow Jackets

[The Eagles could not overcome a two-run first inning from the Yellow Jackets as Georgia Southern dropped its first decision of 2009 to No. 8 Georgia Tech, 5-3, Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 25) at J.I. Clements Stadium. The loss evened the series at 1-1 as both teams now boast identical 4-1 records.]


2. Softball Drops Two to Georgia State

["After last weekend's tournament, we did a lot of talking about what we need to improve on; and we felt that we acomplished that in game one," said Johnson. "In the second game we felt like we fell back into those inconsistencies that we showed over the weekend."]


3. Eagles in Rematch at Elon

[In the last regular season road trip this year, the Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball team travels to Elon and Davidson this weekend. The trip begins Thursday night (Feb. 26) at Elon, tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.]


4. Monte Notches SoCon Player of the Week Honors

[“Joe had a great tournament under really tough conditions. He tied the lowest round yesterday and he’s been working really hard to get to where he is at,” said head coach Larry Mays. “I’m looking forward to him getting even better the rest of the season.”]


5. Fans Vote for Your Eagle Athlete of the Week

[The Georgia Southern Athletics Department has released the new nominees for the Eagle Athlete of the Week fan poll for Tuesday, February 25. The poll will open every Tuesday for fan voting and close the following Monday of each week. The Athletic Media Relations Department will nominate the student athletes every week based on the previous week’s athletic events. All statistics of the nominees are from those events only, not overall season statistics. Fans vote online at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com and check back on Monday to see your winner. The poll is located on the lower left side of the homepage.]


6. Tech splits with GSU after 5-3 win

[“I think you’ve got to tip your hat to Kevin Jacob. He threw the ball very well for them today and got in a rhythm. We had some opportunities against him early and failed to take advantage,” said GSU coach Rodney Hennon. “It’s not so much that we took a bad approach, I just think he did a good job on the mound for them.”]


7. Eagles fall in second game to Tech, 5-3

[Good signs are coming from J.I. Clement Stadium as they split a two game series with the eighth ranked school in the nation. “I like where we are at right now,” commented coach Hennon. “We just gave up outs when on base and that will hurt you.”]


8. Elon men encounter busy stretch drive with something to prove

[By winning tonight, Elon can sweep the regular-season series with Georgia Southern, an accomplishment that has eluded the Phoenix this season. Georgia Southern edged Jacksonville State 66-63 last weekend to snap an eight-game losing streak. Georgia Southern hasn't picked up a Southern Conference victory since Jan. 24. The Eagles are 1-11 in true road games this season. Their only road win came Jan. 15 at UNCG. Since joining the Southern Conference in the 2003-04 season, Elon has gone 0-3 at home in Alumni Gym against Georgia Southern.]
