Each day we strive to find article links involving Georgia Southern athletics and former Georgia Southern athletes. Should you find we missed an article link, please reply to help keep the Eagle Faithful informed:

1. Wolfes Fires 66, Men's Golf Sits in Second After Day 2 of SoCons

[Scott Wolfes matched the lowest round of the tournament with a 6-under-par 66, and Georgia Southern shot 4-under as a team to move into second place after day two of the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championships at National Golf Club Monday.]

2. Baseball Set to Host Two Mid-Week Games

[Georgia Southern dropped their second-straight Southern Conference series over the weekend to Samford. The Eagles sit just 9-9 in conference play after five series and are looking to get back in the win column with a pair of mid-week games against Bethune-Cookman and the College of Charleston.]

3. Georgia Southern Softball Weekly Report – Week 11

[Taylor Rogers, did a great job this week for the Eagles in the leadoff role. She hits .545 with six singles in 11 plate appearances. She posted a pair of hits in each game including two against Alabama. Her single up the middle in the first inning turned into a run as the Eagles tallied nine hits off Alabama's Jacklyn Trayna.]

4. Georgia Southern Baseball Weekly Report – Week 10

[Garrett Chapman led the team with a .429 batting average in four starts last week. Chapman went six for 14 with three runs scored and three RBI. Chapman slugged .500 and tallied a double in the win over the College of Charleston. Chapman capped off the week with two hits in the series finale against Samford. Chapman also drove in the game-winning run in game one of Sunday's doubleheader with a sacrifice fly.]

5. My Take: Focus or foregone conclusion?

[The first half of the season showed that the Eagles could flat-out dominate and still look good on a bad day. It’s no foregone conclusion that the GSU season is going to be forgettable, but because it’s baseball and any team in America can beat you on any given day, it’s also no guarantee that the Eagles will get their focus back.]

6. Locals in the pros, colleges update

[Cal Baker (Georgia Southern University) — Baker is 1-for-14 in four games, getting his first hit Wednesday against College of Charleston. He has scored three runs.]

7. Gosselin: I think Cowboys have a good draft, but flat tires from past will still haunt them

[If the Cowboys can build a defensive line this offseason, that will make Marinelli a better coach, Sean Lee a better middle linebacker, Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne better corners and Jeff Heath and J.J. Wilcox better safeties. It all starts up front. Ask Marinelli.]

8. Workouts Could Net Dez a Nice Payday

[Pending their attendance, LB Bruce Carter ($50,000), RB DeMarco Murray ($25,000), S J.J. Wilcox, defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford and WRs Dwayne Harris and Terrance Williams ($10,000 each) will also have a chance to fatten their pockets a bit going into training camp.]

9. Royals Minor League report: April 20

[Matt Murray struck out two over 3.2 scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 1.35 (2 ER in 13.1 IP).]

10. Manatees Fall To Tampa, 2-1

[The best chance for the Manatees came in the top of the first as back-to-back singles by catcher Cameron Garfield and left fielder Victor Roache, followed by a walk to right fielder Michael Reed, loaded the bases.]

11. Chris Beck: Beck rocked in fourth start

[White Sox prospect RHP Chris Beck was shelled Sunday for six earned runs on eight hits in just 4 1/3 innings for Double-A Birmingham. Beck, 23, was outstanding earlier in the week when he fired seven shutout innings against Double-A Mobile. However, that wasn't the case Sunday, as the right-hander fanned only two batters and failed to complete the fifth inning. On the year, Beck owns a 5.91 ERA and 5/3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 21 1/3 innings (four starts). The right-hander lacks a high ceiling, but his deep arsenal and college background should make him a solid back-end starter for the White Sox, possibly as early as late this summer.]

12. GSU alum, USGA director talks US Open

[USGA Executive Director Mike Davis, a former Georgia Southern golfer, said Monday that he is expecting "a challenging test of golf, but ... a great test of golf" on the course designed by Donald Ross and recently restored to his specifications by Ben Crenshaw.]

13. Americus-Sumter chooses Dawson as next head football coach –

[Dawson played college football at Georgia Southern before playing a short period of Arena Football for the Carolina Cobras. He is from Camilla, and has been the head coach of a high school football team at Twiggs County.]

14. Option backs

[Lots of good backs will be available on the third day. Tiny Dri Archer of Kent State (4.26) is comparable to Kansas City’s Dexter McCluster and probably projects as a situational receiver. Jerick McKinnon of Georgia Southern (4.41) and De’Anthony Thomas of Oregon (4.5) are other speedsters.]
