1. Football Parking Renewal Deadline for 2014 is May 15

[Be sure to renew your existing Paulson Stadium parking spot before the May 15 deadline! Renew online by clicking HERE or by calling the Georgia Southern University Athletic Foundation Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. at 912-478-5520.]

2. Georgia Southern Baseball Weekly Report – Week 11

[Ryan Cleveland hit two home runs, two doubles and drove in seven runs in a 6 for 14 week. Cleveland hit .429 on the week and capped off the four-game week by going four for four with six RBI, a double and two home runs in a 20-2 win over Wofford. Cleveland walked twice in Saturday's game and two more times in Sunday's win. Cleveland opened the week by going one for four against College of Charleston.]

3. Georgia Southern Softball Weekly Report – Week 12

[Senior pitcher Sarah Purvis was dominant this week, winning a pair of conference pitcher's duels against Chattanooga. She took the series opener 3-1 over the Mocs, working around three hits. She pitched all 13 innings of the 6-5 win over Chattanooga on Sunday, allowing just one earned run while striking out 11 batters. In the midweek game against South Carolina, Purvis gave up just three runs on five hits with six strikeouts. She is now 18-10 on the year with 239 strikeouts.]

4. Locals in the pros, colleges update

[Cal Baker (Georgia Southern University) — Baker is 2-for-24 in eight games, starting seven of them. He has scored five runs.]

5. SEC 8-game schedule provides impetus for UGA to improve non-conference slate

[Two also-rans and a bye should be sufficient for breath-catchers during the season. That’s one reason the SEC did not ban FCS opponents, which was considered. But hopefully non-conference slates such as the one Georgia will trot out in 2015 (Georgia Tech, Southern, Louisiana-Monroe, Georgia Southern) will be a thing of the past.]

6. NC State adjusts future nonconference football schedules

[N.C. State will play three Sun Belt teams over the next four years, including a home game with Georgia Southern to open the 2014 season. The Wolfpack is also scheduled to play at South Alabama in 2015.]

7. Kellenberger: September best time for Ole Miss, to schedule ‘Big 5’ opponent in ’16

[But the Rebels only have two potential dates left for a qualifying opponent after announced games against Memphis (Sept. 10) and Wofford (Sept. 17), and Georgia Southern’s athletics director told a local TV station Friday that the school (now in the Sun Belt) will play Ole Miss in 2016 (without giving a date). These dates (especially Wofford) could move, but the easiest solution is to play the fourth non-conference game on either Sept. 3 or 24.]

8. Weekly 2014 NFL Mock Draft

[I feel like the Cowboys have to take the best defensive player available in the first round. They need help everywhere on the defensive side of the ball. It will be a close one between Clinton-Dix and Mosley but the Cowboys will decide to give J.J. Wilcox a chance to start next year at the safety position. He is a 2013 third round pick and he had his moments last year. So they will draft a sideline to sideline linebacker to help Sean Lee.]

9. Jim Nantz: ‘The Cowboys Will Figure Out A Way To Get Manziel’

[Then the question becomes is their a talented enough player at either of those positions worthy of a first-half first round pick? Honestly, I don’t think the Cowboys believe so. Not unless a player like Michigan tackle Taylor Lewan or Texas A&M tackle Jake Matthews falls to them at No. 16. And at safety, I believe they like last year’s third round pick J.J. Wilcox for the starting job alongside Barry Church. They are simply not ready to give up on the second-year player whom they’ve already invested in.]

10. Manaea dazzles as Wilmington Blue Rocks edge Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 2-1

[Mark Peterson’s four-inning relief outing is the longest by a member of the Blue Rocks bullpen this season. Matt Murray held the previous season-high of 3.2 innings pitched.]
