[Griffin Benedict (Dunwoody/St. Pius) batted .647 last week, including tying a NCAA record by hitting two home runs in the same inning, and the senior catcher was voted Southern Conference ‘Player of the Week’. It’s the first SoCon weekly award in his career.]


3. Throwing in some runs

[“We have a great backfield,” said Urbano. “A lot of guys are going to touch the ball and get a lot of opportunities. It’s going to be a great season. I like catching the ball out of the backfield – just anything really to help win the game.”]


4. Jones gains scholarship, loses hair

[“Coach Hatcher brought me in and said he was proud of me and said he was going to give me a full ride,” Jones said. “It was a big deal. I didn’t think I’d get one this spring.”]


5. Phillies Notes: Hamels works on improving command

6. Grady Transfers To Armwood

[On Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Tampa Prep will host the Tampa Bay Basketball Coaches Association East vs. West Boys Basketball All-Star Game, which will also feature a dunk contest. Players expected to participate include King senior forward and Georgia Southern signee Toarlyn Fitzpatrick, who recently led the Lions to the Class 5A state final four; Tampa Prep senior guard Jake Haslam, who helped Tampa Prep reach the 2A state final four; and Berkeley Prep senior guards and Division I recruits Johnathan Gray and Austin Suarez, who took the state-ranked Buccaneers to the 3A region playoffs.]
