1. Eagles Score Late, Defeat Kennesaw State 4-2

[“I wanted to do something special for the team. The first pitch he hung a curveball, and I told myself if he threw a fastball I wanted to make good contact. I got my pitch and hit it pretty well. That’s probably the longest home run I’ve hit to date,” said Porter.]

4. Porter's shot lifts Eagles

[“It was a hard play at the plate there,” said Georgia Southern coach Rodney Hennon. “You had a pitcher in the middle of the baseline and the catcher behind him, and from my angle I couldn’t even tell who caught the ball when it was thrown in. The rule in college baseball is that if someone has possession of the ball in front of the plate, you have to slide. Certainly Ty didn’t go in there with a forearm or in any way maliciously. … The umpire just felt like he didn’t slide and by rule, he got ejected.”]

5. GSU linebackers have much to prove

[“There’s a lot of guys fighting for positions, and we’re trying to find the right combination — projecting a lot of the freshmen and where they fit in,” GSU coach Chris Hatcher said about the defense. “We’ve kept it real simple just to let (the veteran) guys go out there and play. There is no depth chart (in the fall). Whoever practices the best that week plays on Saturday. We’re going to have to rely on a lot of freshmen again this year. The freshmen — they get the first crack at it to come in and show us what they can do. Spring is big for the guys that are already here, because this is their opportunity to position themselves headed into camp.”]
