Each day we strive to find article links involving Georgia Southern athletics and former Georgia Southern athletes. Should you find we missed an article link, please reply to help keep the Eagle Faithful informed:

1. Hatcher, Fountain talk football at 2009 SoCon Teleconference

[The tough schedule won’t give the Eagles much of a break. “I like playing those easy teams to be honest with you,” laughed Hatcher. “I wish we had 11 easy teams on the schedule. Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. … Fortunately we’re playing the first one at home. Or unfortunately – last year we were terrible at home and better on the road, so who knows with this crew.”]

2. Eagles picked to finish fourth in SoCon

["I think Georgia Southern will be as good as anyone in our conference," Appalachian State coach Jerry Moore said. "There are four or five in (the league) that could win the whole thing."]

3. Braves pound Generals, 16-8

[Waynesboro starter Robert Sabo fanned Blake McDade for the second out, but Kyle Blackburn took a 3-2 pitch into right for a single as Huffer motored into third. Mauck called for the safety squeeze and Johnny Dishon laid down a perfect bunt up the third, scoring Huffer. Anthony Mesa did the same identical thing on the next pitch, and when Sabo’s throw to first was wide left, Blackburn continued home for a 2-1 lead for the Braves.]

4. Baltimore Ravens Training Camp: Tuesday's PM Practice

[There is a new receiver in camp, already wearing what was supposed to be Drew Bennett's number 18, although his name is not even stitched onto his jersey yet. He is little known Jayson Foster, whom we will know slightly more about at Wednesday's practice other than that he is only around 5'7" tall, but very quick after the catch.]

5. Early surprise about Ravens' McGahee

[The Ravens have signed 5-foot-7 journeyman wide receiver Jayson Foster, who is on his fourth team (the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers were the others) in two seasons. He has not made a catch in the NFL.]

6. Ravens notebook: McGahee healing quickly

[The Ravens signed diminutive wide receiver Jayson Foster, a 5-foot-7, 185-pounder who has previous stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins’ practice squads. As a senior at Georgia Southern two years ago, Foster won the Walter Payton award as the top Division I-AA offensive player.]

7. Hammerheads Win Sixth Straight

[Reliever Wade Korpi (1-0) picked up his first win of the season while A.J. Battisto pitched a perfect ninth to record his fifth save.]

8. Green defeats Goosen in Canadian playoff

[The next best of the Australians was Steve Elkington 40th, Jason Day 52nd and Aron Price, who made the cut but did not play the final two rounds under the MDF rule.]

9. P-Nats’ rally falls short

[Pena did not get his first out until Chris Shehan, who batted after Fisher, struck out.]

10. mmmmmm…Lamb Meat.

[However if UNC ever wants to be taken seriously as a football team, its schedule will have to do a lot better than The Citadel, Georgia Southern and UConn — and LSU is certainly a big step up.]

Just for the record, I was not the lone voter who cast a #1 vote for GSU in the preseason poll. :p I'm a homer, but I am not THAT big of a homer !

I had us 3rd.

I hope I'm wrong, at we end up at #1 or #2.
