1. Golf Ties for Seventh at Shoal Creek

[“We got off to a dreadful start, that first round killed us. I challenged our team last night not to make any double bogeys and we made only one all day,” said head coach Larry Mays. “We went out and redeemed ourselves, playing well on a really good golf course. I thought our team showed a lot of heart to bounce back like that. I think at the end of the season you could see 10, 11 or maybe all 12 teams in the postseason.”]

2. Elusive freshman Barney sparks GSU's offense

["I liked Coach Hatcher," Barney said. "He knew what he wanted me to do. He talked about winning all the time. He told me expect to win. ... Other coaches said it, but they didn't stress it like Coach Hatcher did."]

3. Close games wearing down Eagles

["That didn't surprise me at all," Henton said of the decision to take the points off the board. "You've got a first down at the 2. We should score a touchdown from 2 yards out. It was the right thing to do. "We should have been able to make a play there, and we didn't. It was upsetting. It hurts to lose at home, but we're not pointing fingers at anyone. We just didn't make plays when we had to. Their defense is good, but we hurt ourselves at times."]

5. The best local player you've never heard of

[Goldwire committed to the Terriers within a week. He picked Wofford over Bucknell, the only other football playing school to offer him a scholarship, and Georgia Southern, which wanted him as a walk-on. "When Wofford came around with a scholarship, I knew where I wanted to be," Goldwire says.]

6. UTC Blog: SoCon slate in full swing

[The nightcaps are Presbyterian at Appalachian State in a non-conference affair and, in the game of the day, Wofford at Georgia Southern, also on CSS. A lot of people expected the Eagles to be among the top teams in the SoCon this season and it will be hard for the them make that happen if they start out 0-2.]
