What is the best (quickest) way to go?

We will not be leaving until early Saturday so I was wondering if anyone had any shortcuts.

From Savannah we go 95-26-77-421 -- All 4 lane roads. Takes a little under 6 hours.

Thanks gsugt

It would probably help if I had stated that we were leaving from Statesboro.

I've been up hwy 25 to Boone lots of little towns to slow you down. It can be a little more scenic like hwy 301 south of statesboro to florida than interstate.

If your leaving Saturday Morning I would add an extra hour because the leaf watchers create a bottle neck going into Boone.

Just head north, roll down your windows and follow the nasty, goat stench.

And if you see this kid and hear banjos:

Bust a U-turn and get out of there.

Head to North Carolina when you get into the state roll down your window and just head towards the sounds of screaming goats...don't ask why they are screaming.

I thought it was "go north till you smell it, then west till you step in it."

My preferred route from Statesboro to Boone:
Take 301 North to Orangeburg; Turn on 601 in Orangeburg and follow to I-26;
I-26 to Columbia and merge onto I-77 North to Charlotte;
On the south side of Charlotte (just a mile or so into North Carolina), take I-485 West to I-85;
Take I-85 South (yes, south) to U.S. 321 North (near Gastonia);
Take U.S. 321 North all the way to Boone (through Hickory, Lenoir, Blowing Rock).

Some Notes:
-Some folks prefer Statesboro (on 25) -to Augusta (around Augusta on 520) - to Columbia (on I-20). There is almost no difference between this and the route via Orangeburg; main difference is I like the emptiness of 301, and sometimes the construction on 25 and then around Augusta has been a slow down (but seems to be less recently).

-From Charlotte, some folks prefer staying on I-77 North to U.S. 421 West and take it all the way into Boone. With the completion of four-laning of 421, that's not a bad route at all, but I've found that the other route (485-85 South-321 North) seems to save me 5-10 minutes. There is a major construction project on 321 North between Lenoir and Blowing Rock, but they supposedly do not block traffic on fall/football weekends.

CAUTION: If anyone is coming up on THURSDAY, be aware that U.S. 321 North between Lenoir and Blowing Rock should be CLOSED between 12:00 Noon and 2:00pm on Thursday (normally scheduled time for blasting of rock). If you would be impacted by this, you should definitely take I-77 north to 421 West.

Also Caution any Boone Residents: Saturday about about 5:50 PM there will be a blasting of "THE ROCK"
