2. Eagles Win Finale Against The Citadel

["We played outstanding the entire afternoon. We haven't won a whole bunch this year and we sure didn't want to mess it up. We weren't looking for style points here today, we were looking to have one more point than the other team. I'm very proud of our team," said GS head coach Chris Hatcher. "All season long they stuck together with no finger pointing. They fought every single game to the final whistle and today we did a lot of the same. Offensively we controlled the ball most of the game Again we look back on what has been our Achilles heel all season. We have had a hard time punching it in when we get down there. We missed a field goal and a throwback to the quarterback. That would have made it a little easier at the end of the game," stated Hatcher. "The defense time and time again came up with a big stop. It wasn't just one guy it was a great team effort. To our guys credit we blocked that extra point to take away a little bit of momentum. What a great way to end a season."]

5. GSU fires Hatcher, staff

[“After the coaches show, (vice president for Business and Finance) Dr. (Ronald) Core and I met with coach Hatcher and informed him that the university has decided not to renew his contract,” said GSU director of athletics Sam Baker. “This was an ongoing discussion over the past week and the decision was made. It had no bearing on the game (Saturday), but it was a decision we felt like we needed to make and one that we felt we needed to move as quickly as possible on.”]

7. Macon native Hatcher fired by Georgia Southern

[The minimum SAT score for gaining admission to Georgia Southern is 1,000. But exceptions can and have been made for admitting athletes. “I’m not amused by the chatter out there,” he said. “Since Coach Hatcher has been here we have made 18 super exceptions to admit football players. So they have been able to get players into school. “But, only 40 percent of those admitted are still in school,” Grube said. “When you bring in students, you have an obligation to them.”]

10. Firing 'unbelievable,' Higgins says

[Citadel football coach Kevin Higgins had left Paulson Stadium and was headed back to Charleston when someone phoned him with the news. "Unbelievable," Higgins said after learning that Georgia Southern had fired its head coach Chris Hatcher about an hour after its 13-6 victory over The Citadel on Saturday. It was the latest twist for a once-proud GSU program that has claimed six national championships since legendary coach Erk Russell revived the program in 1982. The Eagles now have had three coaches in five years, two of them fired by athletic director Sam Baker, who himself has been under heat from GSU fans this year.]

13. Dialing Ivin Jasper, Jeff Monken

[Georgia Southern has announced the firing of head coach Chris Hatcher following a 5-6 season. That's three head coaches that have come and gone in Statesboro since Paul Johnson left for Navy. Offensive line coach Mike Sewak succeeded Johnson and was fired after four seasons. He is now back with Johnson at Georgia Tech. Brian VanGorder replaced Sewak and resigned after three seasons to become an assistant with the Atlanta Falcons while Hatcher lasted three seasons and compiled an 18-15 record before being fired.]
