    Re: Conference Championship

Played my Jr and Sr high school seasons with no ACL. Literally played the next week with a brace. Still got no ACL. Never had it repaired. Knee hurts a bit, but doc says it looks remarkably good for...

    Re: Option Offense

No, I say it’s a perfect illustration of what constitutes a ‘disappointing’ season under the flex: 7-4 with a landmark victory over a P5 team. I’ll take that as a ‘low point’ or ‘floor’ any day.

    Re: Option Offense

I actually meant to refer to 1996 (Ellwood). 1994 was the true all-time low point for an actual flex coach, and even then it was a .500+ season.

Side note: Ellwood matched his career high win...

    Re: Option Offense

I disagree with your first paragraph that those examples represent an Achilles heel.

As for your second paragraph, you can say that again.

    Re: Option Offense

Intuitively, this does seem like it would be an issue (if I’m understanding what you’re saying). But it didn’t represent anything of an Achilles’ heel from ‘10-‘13 and should have also been an issue...

    Re: Option Offense

This, and not some notion of mythical infallibility, is one of the primary motivations behind my (and I suspect most) affinity for the flex at GS.

    Re: Option Offense

Again, no one as far as I know has ever said it’s infallible to the point of scoring on every single play. But we won 10+ games 16 out of 24 times with it. We won 7+ games 23 out of 24 times with it....

    Re: Option Offense

Maybe if analyzed on a per possession or even per game basis, but not on a per season basis. The ‘worst’ of the flex seasons feel like a warm binky in hindsight. 1994 being the obvious and...

    Re: Option Offense

The analogy is not about championships, per se, it’s about characterizing a superior accomplishment in negative terms because it’s not the ultimate accomplishment. Making the semifinals on such a...

But they have ‘failed’ to repeat, i.e., win back to back.

Don’t play dumb. You’re smarter than that.

A guy who has made ‘only’ $9 million dollars is not appropriately characterized as ‘having...

LOL. I guess that's one way to put it.

In other news, the Patriots have had difficulty repeating as Super Bowl champs since 2005.

    Re: Option Offense

This is the biggest disconnect every time this debate comes up.

Someone says “The flex would continue to work well consistently at GS” and everyone hears “The flex is infallible and is the only...

I think I was a freshman or sophomore back around ‘89-ish. We had a conference game against UALR, I think. They got the word out, stands were packed, everyone was locked and loaded. After the first...

Re: Going conservative with the lead

Again, “Before the game, during the game, or between periods.” Pretty cut and dry.

When did it become common practice to cite the rule beyond the general name of the foul?

Your whole argument is that this is proof that the refs are deliberately making calls against us. It doesn’t matter that your supreme example ignores the fact that they threw an offsetting flag on...

Re: Going conservative with the lead

They didn’t call it on both teams?

Or you think the rule applies ‘only when the clock is running’? It specifically says “before the game, during the game or between periods”.

Doesn’t say anything about the clock. Yes a game was happening. Even references ‘celebrations’ and ‘after’ a play.

Dude, they called the dancing penalty on BOTH teams. Yet you continue to use it as evidence that they are not 'straight shooters' when it comes to us.
