I think the "winged" letters may be fazing out. I could be wrong, but I don't see a lot of that stuff any more. Even what sells in the book store, anything with that look has been on the clearance rack last time I was there.

Has the "wont't grow/diseased" reason ever been officially stated? I was under the impression that ther official reason was to allow more practices in Paulson.

Roger confirmed to me at the gags fiasco that it will be cork infill. Will be one of the few out there right now!

This issue has really had me ticked off. Yes, the existing turf is diseased. However, the disease was introduced from installing different strands of Bermuda grass. Once two different breeds of the turf are introduced, over time they mix together and form a sort of hybrid Bermuda, which is where the discoloration comes from. Paulson stadium, and Statesboro in general, is the lords gift to earth for growing Bermuda. Sandy soils, high temps, and water is basically all that stuff needs and it will just about grow on asphalt. If the field were to be re sodded entirely with sod from a reputable sod farm and cared for properly, we could have the best natural turf field in the country.

I know the debate over injuries on fake turf vs real turf is ongoing, but I just have to believe that if fake turf was the way to go, wouldn't all the major sec universities be installing it??? They certainly have the capitol to do so. Not to mention how hot it is during the Statesboro summer, I've got to believe that the fake turf will get blistering hot after soaking up 100+ degree beaming sun all day.

I just generally think the fake turf is a mistake.

Now that the team is housed in the FOC it also makes a lot more sense for them to be able to use Paulson for portions of practice and strength training without having to commute to the practice fields every day. In order to keep the field nice for game day with additional usage it was going to be necessary to change the surface to something that can withstand that frequent usage. If the future plans for the practice fields are to develop that area into the new soccer/track facilities (a long way down the line) then the team was eventually going to have to vacate that property anyway.

Changing the playing surface is a part of a multi-phase plan for athletic expansion, take a step back and look at the whole process. This isn't just a conversation about which is better grass or turf.

I've heard that the cork will be cooler than the rubber.

Also, it looks like they are using a pickaxe to remove the turf.

I think they were digging up the piping for the sprinkler system.
