I'm guessing that the 2016 game versus Savannah State was negotiated in late 2013 when we had to scramble to fill the void of Duquesne on our 2014 schedule because they didn't have enough scholarship players to count for a D1 victory and we scheduled SSU for that year. I know there were other elements to it to- baseball and basketball. I would think we see more opportunities to play former SoCon teams, Big South teams, etc. here in the near future as our FCS scheduling opens up.

100% disagree, the entire SB SOS is going to drag us down in an Access Bowl slot, not just SSU. Our P5 game will make up for that.

Umm SSU is one of the worst FCS and it is not just about SOS it is about the committee's opinion. We are talking about tie breakers and playing a full FBS schedule will be huge in the committees eyes. UNC got shut out of any New Years six consideration because of the perception of weak FCS games despite rolling through their division and playing a good game against the #1 team in the country. SOS is a factor not the only factor.

UNC played 2 FCS teams. That was the big knock against them.

Houston played Tennessee Tech. An FCS team is an FCS team is an FCS team.

All opinions against playing FCS are invalid.

For 2015 we sold 7100 season tickets. Hitting the goal of 8500 in 2016 will increase our season tickets by 1400

In 2014 we sold 5,800. So we increased by 1300 season tickets between 2014 and 2015 seasons.

We just need to beat Ole Miss, Tech, or come close in 1 and win the other.

Except when they don't have enough scholarships

I will say this, if we are ever going to shoot for that New Years Six bowl we likely can't have an FCS on our schedule as the Belt has a long ways to go to help our SOS. If it were between us and a AAC team not having an FCS would probably go a long ways in the selection committees eyes.
I tend to agree with this notion. I understand all the purpose of a "warm up" game, but let's face it, half of the SBC is a warm up game- at least in the eyes of the committee.
