I would gather it would be built in a way to be used for more than just basketball, especially if Bulloch County and Statesboro chip in.

It is better to have it and not need it then need it an not have it when it comes to athletics. Remember when people thought the Parrish center was all we would ever need for football.

I would like to see the south stands at the stadium be done first but this was 1B for athletics. Good for the basketball programs and at least we will know facilities will no longer limit our potential.

This needs to happen. Goes way beyond the need for just basketball. Hanner is ancient and does not serve the growing needs of the school.

Has anyone stopped to think that:

    1. A new arena could get us better home opponents for basketball? Savannah State has a 6k arena and they have hosted Wisconsin, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, and Miami just in the last 10 seasons.

    2. That if we're going to wait until we fill up the arena to expand it, we may be waiting forever? Wouldn't it be good to at least show recruits we don't have one of the smallest arenas in the Sun Belt so maybe we'll recruit better and then improve the crowds by improving the product?

    3. That the new facility would serve other purposes besides basketball? (don't know why that doesn't register with some people).
Don't choose to be annoyed. Choose to be amused.

If you think TK is the reason we don't have better non-conference football schedules, see this post.

Think of arena or stadium management folks for the Mercedes-Benz Stadium or Philips Arena. Those facilities aren't just home to the Falcons & Hawks. They host so many more events than just Falcons & Hawks games.

We could be in line to host GHSA basketball, volleyball or wrestling, tournaments, concerts, WWE, other shows, political speakers & rallies...not just our own basketball, volleyball, and graduation events. Those people that run other facilities are keeping events lined up to add that extra revenue to their coffers.

That first story about Dingus is nuts. Georgia Southern needs actual bars back.

Honestly one of the biggest things is high school graduations, that's why you may see some City/County/School board money go into this, they were having to turn people away at I think a Statesboro High graduation a couple years ago and limit each graduate to having only 2 guests with "tickets" or something.

Yes, yes and YES! SOooo many advantages are possible.

Here is the feasibility study results: it will cost a LOT; but it is absolutely necessary (and overdue) for the largest comprehensive university in South Georgia.

Completely agree with the last few points. This will serve the city along will all of southeast GA. It would do wonders for our university as a whole also for admissions. Pretty bad when students take a tour on campus and we have to show Hanner!

A 21,000 student university needs a state of the art arena, so does the city and county. Rather than a gym who's scoreboards don't work and the roof leaks anytime there is a heavy rain.
