Thread: NSD #1

For all the criticism of our recruiting and saying "Foster, Lunsford, Cabral and Sloan are recruiting specialists, why aren't we doing better, blah blah blah" please remember that recruiting is not a 1-2 week deal, but these coaches must establish a relationship with the kids and the kids family over the course of time to effectively recruit. I'm sure there are some kids we lost due to this past seasons performance, plus the 4-5 weeks of uncertainty concerning who the head coach would be. It's a bit ridiculous to expect us to sign 20+ 3-star kids on an early signing period after what has happened in the last 6 months with our program. Now, if NEXT year we are facing the same issues, then by all means be concerned and get your pitchforks back out.

It's hilarious that some people think stating obvious facts means you are being negative about the team.

Lets not compare ourselves to UGA in recruiting. 1. We are not in the same game right now. 2. There is so much more to that conversation thats going to take us on a huge tangent. When we start playing at a level to be considered a peer, then we can start addressing that. Right now we are coming off 2 years of playing like a peer to Savannah St.

Stop looking at stars and offers and look at some film. We have some of the greatest football experts in the world on this forum surely some of you see some kids that can play.

And we will. I just suggest we give this staff longer than 2 weeks before judging how well they are going to recruit.

[QUOTE=wonmoretime;893749]I don’t know about the stars I’d rather have them than not but I have seen CJ Wright play and I would take a team full of him. He’s what 2 stars? Take a look at Najee’s film. That kid is a heck of an athlete. The Juco kid is a flat out steal.
Tyson screwed recruiting this year from the start. Whatever we end up with will be better than what we would have had with him regardless of numbers and stars.[/QUOTE

I think thats what people are missing. They are only looking at stars and offers that a kid has but if you look at the film it says so much more. Honestly, I think we are signing really good players so far especially Webb.

    2011 Signing Class

This class had only 3 three-star players. One of those 3 never made it to campus, and a second one left after his first season and came back for his final year. There was a lot of consternation over this class when it was signed, but the class had:
    Dominique Swope
    Antonio Glover
    BJ Johnson
    Garrett Frye
    Antwione Williams
    Manrey Saint-Amour
    Zach Walker

In fact, the one player from that class I remember getting a lot of hype was Prince McJunkins (gone after the first season while the less hyped Kevin Ellison became the next guy).

If the recruiting ratings were worth a crap we would've never competed in the Sun Belt our first season. And I know someone will say "well, the recruiting services just don't care about FCS". Sure, but do you really think they care about the G5? I don't.
Hey TK! Change the culture back!

If you think TK is the reason we don't have better non-conference football schedules, see this post.

Nothing wrong with CL's approach to recruiting, but most every new coach is saying the same thing, so it's not unique to us. It's called coach speak. The disappointing thing to me is that with all of CL's supposed recruiting prowess, apparently we could not close on a local kid that wanted to come here, would be a centerpiece of our DL and has been committed a long time. I don't know all the issues though and hopefully that will still happen.

This, no way to sugar coat last year or how this year has started but you cant judge this staff on recruiting until after the traditional signing day and even then the effects of the Tyson hire are still going to linger. Also CCL is 2-4, recruits have nothing else to go on right now. If we can maintain with the top of the Belt this year consider it a win. Next year if we are not in the 80's+ nationally minimum we are going to have a hard time being anything other but a good Sun Belt team which is not where our expectations should be.

That is where the stars come from people that have been doing this for years looking at film then assigning a star rating backed up by stats, level of competition and camp numbers...For those that dont like stars offers is a rock solid way to judge a kid. That is coaching staffs looking at the same things and then deciding they want a kid. Being the only team to offer a kid outside of OL maybe is mind boggling, there are 130+/- FBS teams and 130+/- FCS last I checked and those coaching staff are turning over every rock to find talent. There are late bloomers but really no hidden gems any more.
