Thread: Long off season anaylsis/discussion (OL)

  1. Default Long off season anaylsis/discussion (OL)

We've got a lot of OL experience returning this season. OL obviously hasn't been our strength the last two years. Can the new OL coach make a difference and compliment Debesse's option offense? Hopefully every position clicks and is on board.

I guess our OL is squared away? Good deal.

A good unit that could be one or two injuries away from trouble.

If you think TK is the reason we don't have better non-conference football schedules, see this post.

Did Ted Field ever show up anywhere?

He showed up last January but was gone before the end of the spring.

IMO, Boynton is a pretty big loss, but that’s partly mitigated by bringing in the two JUCO linemen. I THINK we’ve got a lot of good, experienced, flexible players coming back, and we could potentially be very good.

There are two things that trouble me:

    1) I wish we had a big, dominant anchor to play OT. We have a lot of talented interior linemen, and I trust we can find at least one plus OT. But if someone could come out of nowhere to be a big-time impact tackle without leaving a gap in the middle, then we could be very good personnel-wise

    2) This is the biggie: yet another OL coach. I’m afraid that the whole will be less than the sum of its parts by default.

Northrup, Rainey, Culbreth, Wilson good core of vets. Kelly, Williams, Grall, Cooper, Edwards with game experience. Smith, Leeds and Backer up and coming. Can DL recruited, OL converted Tucker and Miller contribute?

    Culbreth.

Freshman all-America honorable mention before he got Tysoned.

    Or maybe even...CJ Wright.

Culbreth, Wilson, and Northrop, and maybe even Williams, can all be “plus” tackles if things goes well. I’m talking about someone emerging besides them (or one of them being a “plus” and another playing at an all-Conference level).

CJ Wright won’t play OT in college. He doesn’t have the length.
