Thread: Stetson Bennett IV

    Default Stetson Bennett IV

Word out of Athens in the last couple of days is that Stetson Bennett IV has announced his intention to transfer to a JUCO with the intention of coming back to D-1 in 2019 with 3 years of eligibility remaining.

He was described by UGA DC Mel Tucker as "a beast" and Butkis Award winner Roquan Smith as a "phenominal." There was one practice session last year where he went 30 for 34 against Georgia’s first-team defense. He was especially efficient in the red zone in that session. Although seemingly undersized for the SEC (a little bigger then Greg Hill), Bennett can sling it and has 4.5-4.6 speed. He is a South Georgia kid from Pierce County. You don't want him at App or Troy.

Will GS pursue him and should they pursue him?

I don’t know if he can play a lick, but we need cool names on the roster. Sign him up!

We should do everything we can to keep him away from our SBC opponents. Plus, he throws well enough to give us a two-QB system.

However, he’s not going JUCO to play in the SBC.

At 5’8” or 9” and with 4.8 or so speed (just guessing from his HS film), he doesn’t profile as an every-down QB for GS.

He’s a (much?) smaller Seth Shuman with (much?) more accuracy.

Anyway, before Eason transferred, wasn’t Bennett a lead pipe lock to transfer to Samford?

    He's 6'-0" 175lb and runs a 4.5.
Senior year was 248/399 for 3724 yards, 40 TD's vs 7 interceptions, 490 yard rushing, 6 rushing TD's including a 369 yard performance against UGA's five star RB who talked him up to Smart.
High scores on tests, 30 ACT, had offers to several ivy league schools and Mercer.
Gave up full ride to Southern Miss and MTSU to be a preferred walk on at UGA.

IIRC he had an offer from us, and not knowing much about him other than that he was a DT QB, I was like why go walk on at UGa to sit behind a bunch of 4-5 stars, why not come here and get a full ride with a chance to be the man? We’ll see what happens, if Lunsford was one of his main staff contacts here we may have a good shot at him after the JUCO year.
