Four of the 30 participants in last year's NCAA championship played in the 2018 Schenkel. You're stating an opinion.

There are MANY more collegiate tournaments both regionally and nationally now than ever before AND at the same timeframe as our event, MANY more events being played at elite venues than ever before. There are very few of these events that have a full field of only P5 traditional powers or smaller golf tradition rich programs.

While we all would love to see our prestigious and historic event to host the elite field we used to on an annual basis, itís likely not to happen again. Both of you (GA and CC) are correct, to a point. It has declined in overall quality per the reasons stated above but also still is very high on the list for many excellent Golf programs around the country.

Nobody has brought up the .500 rule, and that has a lot to do with college golf tournaments and their fields each year.

I was not even aware of the rule until a couple of years ago, and the NCAA has now used the rule for about 10 years and it means in all of your tournaments played you have to finish higher than 50% of your competition in order to even be eligible for the postseason.

After our Schenkel victory, our Golfstat ranking is 54 out of almost 300 division 1 programs, and our relative percentage is 75.80%- meaning we have finished higher than 75.80% of all teams in all tournaments we have played this year.

So if you are the head coach at a program expecting to be in contention for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament each year, you have to think about what tournaments you enter and your relative percentage. You're not going to want to compete in all top tournaments where the fields are loaded.

The Linger Longer hosted by KSU at Lake Oconee going on at the same time as the Schenkel had a pretty stacked field, as did the General Hackler hosted by Coastal in Myrtle Beach the week prior. I was told the field at the Schenkel started to diminish years ago due to the .500 rule because the competition had gotten so tough. I would agree the field this year wasn't as strong as it has been in years past, but I suspect it will ebb and flow as Coaches evaluate where they want to go each year.
