    The team was definitely better.

    The mistakes were definitely worse.

+1.5 ypp over the offense from the SCSU game......and that's with the massive losses on those snaps (more like +2.5 or higher without them), and against a better team too.

SCSU (coming off a 3-win MEAC season)
    1 fumble, 0 turnovers, 2 penalties
    5.8 YPP offense

    Maine (coming off a semifinal)
    7 fumbles, 1 turnover, 7 penalties
    7.5 YPP offense

The differences are stark. If we were a sloppy, mistake-ridden team last season I'd probably have to accept it may not get better, but it was very uncharacteristic of our games under this staff and there are clear reasons (backup QB making his first start, a guard playing center for his first time) for the mistakes.

    My thoughts exactly.

The defense probably played better against SCSU?

Of course, that offense was very bad by MEAC standards.

Lose to USA and its time for a change at QB. Build for the future IMO

No. I hold my breath every snap hoping it won't go over the QB's head and lead to a big loss. I don't want to hold my breath every time the QB runs hoping it's not a fumble, too.

If we lose to USA, it won't matter

I would think since this offense is based on precision/timing(at least that is what CD said when he first got here), our QB at least 50% of the snaps is wondering if it will be delivered down by his shins or sailing over his head. That screws up precision and timing. Werts isn't the problem at all. Plus, he is only a JR.
