Thread: Video playoffs from 1999 20 years later

  1. Default Video playoffs from 1999 20 years later

Feeling nostalgic, or want to hear and see what all the "old folks" are talking about. I went back and pulled interviews and highlights from all the games from the 1999 National Championship run. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

That, was Georgia Southern football the way it's supposed to be. The "Georgia Power Company".

Josh you are the best. Loved northland cable back in the day, you and Nate, your broadcasts, your family and your love for georgia southern. We all miss the truly old days and our brand of football. Go eagles!

I think fondly of those days, but the only thing I miss is a $25 monthly Northland cable bill.

1999... by far my favorite Eagle team.

That 1999 team was record setting, legendary. It was the Apex of flexbone football. Extremely fun to watch and nearly impossible to defend.

That being said, expecting a team to replicate that level of success consistently is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Wow the flexbone was soo great that it only managed 16 points against App that year... Debesse’s offense has beaten App 2 years in a row... where is Talon to explain this???

So you chose a game from the year we won a NC with the flex to criticize the flex? I don’t think you thought that through.

Debesse just had 2 weeks to devise a master game plan to score 1 TD on one of the worst run defenses in the country, let’s not accidentally put him up on a pedestal.

I think the defense had a lot to do with both of those wins. I’ll take the Flexbone any day even if we only score 16 points against App St ad infinitum.
"Losing is the most disgusting thing that you can experience...We feel we need to surround ourselves with people who feel that winning is the most important thing in the world. If you feel that way, and I do, and I think our players feel that way, then losing has got to be about the worst thing that can happen to you." Erk Russell

Yep, they had one bad day (actually App had a great day) and really lost when Earthwind Moreland blocked a punt and it bounced out of the endzone on App's pavement like artificial turf for a safety instead of literally any other outcome.

That flexbone averaged over 50 PPG and over 550 YPG over 15 games. Adrian Peterson won the Payton Award, Greg Hill was SoCon POTY, and Mark Williams won the Jacobs Trophy. That flexbone offense also scored 197 points in 4 playoff games and scored 41 on Oregon State at their place.

It ain't the offense for GS now but it sure was then. Also, the 1999 GS team would spank the 2019 version, and I don't know how anybody could argue otherwise.
