Thread: 2020 Record Prediction Poll (Preliminary)

    Default 2020 Record Prediction Poll (Preliminary)

    Let's go on the assumption of football proceeding as normal for the purposes of discussion. For those that haven't been on the Flight Line in a while, you can find discussion about whether or not there will be football season here:

    What percent right now would you give to a 2020 college football season
    or here
    will there be a 2020 football season???? ;-(

    Previous Preseason Record Prediction Polls:
    2019
    2018
    2017

    My breakdown of the schedule. I predict outcomes for groups of games and not individual games.

    High confidence wins: Campbell
    High confidence losses: None (no LSU or Clemson)

    We will lose 1 of these 5 games
    @Coastal
    Texas State
    FAU
    @ULM
    South Alabama

    We will lose 3 of these 4 games
    Troy
    @ Louisiana
    @ Boise State
    @ Ole Miss

    We will beat App State and Georgia State again .

    That makes us 8-4 total.

    1. I expect the conference across the board to not be as good this season as last year. I could see Troy being better which could spell real trouble for us but at least they are at home. I fully expect App, La-La, ULM, Georgia State, and Coastal to all drop off at least some. FAU will also not be as good without Lane Kiffin.

    2. I think with better safety play we'll actually be better on defense this year. We just need to not be bad at corner and "anchor" LB. I think we'll be okay at both positions.

    3. Offense will mostly decide where we fall from 6-9 wins. I think we'll be vastly improved on the offensive line with Brian Miller and some younger guys stepping up. At the skill positions we are what we are and it depends on how Lunsford will choose to integrate ideas from Doug Ruse and Bob DeBesse. I hope we aren't fixing what's broken, but we're definitely doing fixing though.

    I was JUST thinking “Wait, didn’t we hire Doug Ruse a few months ago?” I had almost forgotten, and it gave me a few seconds of escapism.

    8-4 sounds about right, with the losses being:

    We will lose 2 of these 5 games
    @Coastal
    Texas State
    FAU
    @ULM
    South Alabama

    We will lose 2 of these 4 games
    Troy
    @ Louisiana
    @ Boise State
    @ Ole Miss

    Sincerely,
    Irwin M. Fletcher

    P.S.: Have a nice day!

    I think 8-4 seems right, but I could just as easily see 7-5. Travelling to Louisiana twice will be tough, we have a tendency to underperform when we travel west for whatever reason. That also makes me questions Boise and Ole Miss. The rest of the games seem very winnable, but I wouldnt be shocked if we slipped up in one of them. So yea, 7-5/8-4.

    Likely Wins:
    Campbell
    Coastal Carolina
    Texas State
    South Alabama

    Toss-Ups:
    FAU
    ULM
    Troy
    Georgia State

    Likely Losses:
    Boise State
    ULL
    App State
    Ole Miss

    So a floor of 4-8 and a ceiling of 8-4 for me.

    Do you think the schedule is harder than last year or just don't think we'll be as good (or both)?

    Not trying to be quarrelsome, just trying to facilitate some discussion.

    5-7 while I get extremely angry watching Bob Debesse's "offense" but it's well established my actual prediction is 0-0

    I'll be honest with you, I've paid little attention to offseason movement and developments, so my opinion probably isn't as educated as some others.

    Given the loss of Vildor and Brinson, I think our defense takes a step back. Offensively, we can't just assume that the offensive line will be better, that our QB learned how to throw, or what impact Ruse will have.

    I don't think the schedule is tougher than last year, but don't see us going into Boise or Oxford and leaving with a win. Sure Ole Miss isn't a premier SEC team in the current moment, but we aren't even a premier G5 team. App State owes us one, but I would be elated if we can get 3 in a row. ULL could be moved to toss-ups, but it being in Lafayette and still having images of their offensive line creating black holes in our defense makes me err on the side of caution.

    ULM is coming on 2 weeks in a row in Louisiana, otherwise I'd say likely win. I don't know if FAU stays a premier G5 without Kiffen, you never know with Georgia State, and Troy would be in likely losses if it weren't in Statesboro.

    When practices DO start will be tricky with social distancing. Maybe we could put some wrinkles in the offense, put in a spread package? Nothing but pitches and passes, have the OL using 6 foot splits?( Obviously no- huddle). Haven't figured out the plan for Defense yet...

    Oh, I imagine Debesse will still huddle, smh. Probably huddles the family everyday to call in his dinner order.
